It
all started on September 1st. of 1957 when a group of young men, most
of them under the age of thirty, decided to form a golf Club that possessed
an excellent golf course and could be used as a meeting place with their
friends. This group was made up of Emilio Pizano, Camilo Samper, Bernardo
Saiz, Alvaro Samper, Julio Ortega, Alberto Vargas, Roberto Pradilla
and Jorge Castello.
With this in mind,
they did not want to build the Club in just any place, so they started
searching for the best spot throughout the Bogotá savanna. On
one of those days, a close friend and future Club member, Octavio Restrepo,
told them about 87 and a half acres of land, located in Cajicá,
that were going to be auctioned. They looked and it definitely was the
place they were looking for. After obtaining the necessary amount of
money and overcoming incredible obstacles, they purchased it. The amount
paid was $ 1,698 pesos per acre.
This
land included a house, which was later on, under the supervision of
Camilo Samper, transformed in to the member's meeting place. This house
still exists and in it there exists a Foundation called "Casa Vieja"
to help the needs of the region. In the rest of the land, they constructed
the first nine golf holes. Over the next few years, more land was purchased
to eventually complete the total area that makes up the Club.
By holding family
picnics, and convincing their best friends of their dream they managed
to have a group large enough to hold their first assembly which took
place on October 15, 1958. By that date the Club had 79 members. Emilio
Pizano De Brigard was elected president and Julio Ortega Samper, vice-president.
A special anecdote, was the fact that during those years there was a
special initiation ceremony for new members. It included a "baptism",
during which "Chibcha" costumes were used.
For the course design,
they investigated who the best golf designer in the world was, and this
is why they contacted the English born Robert Trent Jones, who charged
US$ 26,000 for the course design. This led to a so spectacular golf
course, that it has been included among the best 50 in the World. The
constructor was the expert Argentinean Alberto Serra. The course was
inaugurated on 1963 with a ribbon cut and a great celebration.
To obtain a way
out on the eastern side, on 1,964 and 1,965 the necessary land was bought
and a road and bridge over the "Bogotá" river were
built.
As far as the complementary
sports are concerned, on 1,962 the first tennis court is built. On 1,969
a pool is constructed which is covered on 1,980.
On 1,966, the new
Club house is built and there is a big celebration to inaugurate it.
On 1,979, with the
purchase of 9 and a half acres on the other side of the river, the Club
completes the total land it owns today. On these acres, tennis courts,
a soccer field and a shelter were built.
On 1,980, due to
a strong winter, the golf course is flooded. Thanks to the effort on
behalf of many of the members, it is fixed in time for the World Cup.
The World Cup was
definitely a milestone in the Club's history, not only due to its world
importance, but because of the golf players who came from countries
all over the world. This event's success was due to the effort and collaboration
of the Club members.
On 1,992 the "El
Rincón" magazine is created which picks up the history,
anecdotes and all those details that make El Rincón such a special
place.
Starting in 1,991,
and after a generational change in the Club directors, a series of constructions
are undertaken to remodel the Club house and improve the machinery and
installations.
Throughout the years,
the Club's directors have made everything possible to maintain the Founder's
initial vision and this is how today we keep being a group of great
friends with an excellent golf course.
On 1,993, in gratitude
to all the years of service to the Club, the Assembly of members elects
Emilio Pizano de Brigard as Honorary President of the Club.

In the future, the
Club will keep improving its golf course, installations and systems
to be up to the standards of the best golf Clubs in the World. On the
other side, it must be kept perfectly clear that El Rincón is
before anything a Club composed of friends and it is with these two
principles that we will advance during the 21st. century.
